Got Grubs? Guaranteed Gone!

What do we mean by that?

We are confident that our earth-friendly biological control solution works and are willing to guarantee that it does. We stand behind our GRUBSTOPR service provided by little green eco lawns.

If, two weeks after the application, you still see signs of European chafer beetle grub activity, please contact us to let us know. We will return to reapply grubTERMINATOR!™ as soon as possible.
This should ensure that the grub infestation problem is resolved. grubTERMINATOR!™ effectively kills up to 90% of the grub infestation—enough to deter any further activity from the destructive crows and raccoons.

This treatment stops the current grub infestation but does not guarantee that grubs will not return in the future. If chafer beetles are present in your neighbourhood, they may return to your lawn and lay eggs the following season. This generally happens in late July to early August. One yearly preventative application of grubTERMINATOR!™ is recommended to prevent a returning grub infestation.

Our GRUBSTOPR service uses an earth-friendly product.

Natural. Effective. Targeted. grubTERMINATOR!™ is made from a patented strain of Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. Galleria (BTG), the first bio-control powerful enough to effectively control susceptible European chafer beetle grubs. And unlike the chemical products, grubTERMINATOR!™ does not pose any risks to non-target beneficial insects such as  earthworms, ladybugs, or pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

The new standard for high performance and safety. You can now achieve a high level of control, like chemical insecticides, without harming the natural ecosystem in your yard. It is also not harmful to people, pets, or birds. It does not contaminate the water table or riparian areas such as streams, ponds, and lakes. The only nonchemical that effectively controls turf grubs from spring through fall, grubTERMINATOR!works not only against first-instar grubs but also against larger and harder-to-control second and third-instar grubs. It thus reduces populations of destructive grubs during spring/summer and helps to reduce secondary foraging in the summer/fall.

Timely treatment options

Treating a lawn for grubs does not have to be complicated. Our GRUBSTOPR service is a great professional option for controlling lawn grubs. There are a few timely treatment options depending on your situation.

● grubTERMINATOR!™ application options:

○ Preventative and Curative (1st, 2nd and 3rd instar)
○ When to apply if grubs are present:

■ Curative – Springtime: (shortly after the ground has thawed) controls grubs coming to the surface of your lawn to feed on roots.
■ Preventative – Middle to late summer: We will target newly hatched grubs and stop the infestation of your lawn. If this treatment is missed, a curative fall treatment would be required.
■ Curative – Fall: Apply to help minimize over-wintering grubs for maximum protection and start your next spring off strong.

prevention tips

Preventative maintenance is key to help keep a healthy lawn all season long. Having a GRUBSTOPR service application at the end of July or early August will help protect your lawn against grubs once fall arrives. In addition, poor soil is often the problem in growing a great lawn. little green eco lawns has effective soil-enhancing products to build healthy soil, balance pH, and loosen compaction. little green eco lawns has created simple Love Your Lawn care programs to create beautiful lawns. Another innovative product we have created is Greenr air8 bio-nutrient aeration, which loosens hard and compacted soil to improve porosity. It makes it easy for air and water to penetrate the soil and adds a dense concentration of living organisms to the turf and soil. These products help strengthen and deepen roots and promote grass growth by increasing biological activity and releasing nutrients trapped in the soil.

Having a healthy lawn is crucial to prevent damage caused by grubs, insects, fungal infections, and drought. Fertilizing regularly with our organic granular lawn fertilizer and regularly deep watering will help build a strong root system to survive potential damage.

Identify signs of grub infestation:

First, it is important to understand that white grubs are the larvae of several different Scarab Beetles.

White Grubs have brown heads with soft, gray, or white c-shaped bodies and live in the soil below the grass. White grub damage is usually most evident in August and September.

grub damage symptoms to lawns include:

● Gradual thinning of the grass
● Yellowing of grass blades
● Scattered, irregular, dead patches
● Torn up lawn areas by crows and raccoons.

The damage will continue to grow if left untreated, meaning the dead patches may increase in size. Healthy turf areas may look like they are wilting. When walking over the infested area, it may feel spongy. Crows, raccoons, skunks, and even moles indicate that white grubs may be present as these creatures feed on grubs. You most likely have a grub problem if you notice damage from them.

all about grubs – identifying, treating, and preventing

White grubs are serious pests and, if left untreated, can cause extensive damage to your lawn quickly. If grub damage has occurred, major repairs such as removing the damaged turf and re-seeding may be needed, which is time-consuming and expensive.

test your lawn for grubs:

● Pull Test: If the turf is heavily grub-damaged, it will not be well anchored to the ground. Grub-infested turf can be pulled easily from the soil by hand. If the grass you are testing is still anchored to the soil, the problem is probably related to other causes. This can include dry spots, dog urine damage, fertilizer burn, or disease.

If the turf does pull up easily, inspect the top 1 to 2 inches of soil for the white larvae. Soil sampling and early recognition of a grub problem can prevent turf loss and costly renovation.

● Shovel Test: To determine the extent of the infestation, sample the turf in several locations throughout the lawn. Cut out one square-foot piece of turf in each location and closely inspect the roots and soil for white grubs. The depth should be around 2 to 3 inches.

After inspecting the sample, replace it and tamp it back into place. Water it well to start the regrowth process.
Note: A few white grubs per square foot on lawns are normal and not a cause for concern. Healthy turf can easily outgrow the root loss caused by a few grubs.
However, an average of ten or more grubs per sample indicates a need for treatment, especially if the lawn is under heat and drought stress. When the weather is cooler and soil moisture adequate, turf can tolerate higher grub activity without damage.

white grub life cycle

To accurately treat and prevent grubs, it is important to understand their life cycle. The following information and the infographic below are based on the life cycle of a Japanese Beetle, which is similar to the Chafer Beetle.

From January through March, grubs are deep in the soil in their winter cells. Many grubs die from freezing temperatures over winter, but they can survive and start eating your grassroots during the spring. In March, April, and May, grubs are closer to the surface and larger as they get closer to becoming a beetle. In June and July, the beetles emerge from the soil. The adult beetles descend into the soil in July and August to lay their eggs.

As shown in the image below, it is best to apply grub control in July and August to prevent any eggs that have been laid from hatching. In September and October, the eggs hatch, and the grubs immediately start feeding on grass roots, which is why grub damage is most prevalent during these months. Then, finally, in December, the grubs descend further into the soil to prepare for winter.

grubs come back every year - that's a given

If grubs have ever infested your property or are present in your neighbourhood, they will return to or find your lawn. Grubs never really go away, and you can expect to find some grubs in every lawn. The number of grubs is what constitutes whether there’s a problem.

Because they’re so persistent in pursuing lawns to feed on, it’s impossible to keep your lawn immune to grubs resurfacing.

Treating your property too late can result in costly lawn repairs.

Our advice: Get rid of most grubs in your lawn with our GRUBSTOPR prevention treatments mid to late summer into early fall.
